The Enlistment Quarters is housed in what was once a former walk-up food venue right on the border of where Frontierland ends and Adventureland begins. When you enter, a Cast Member guides you to a screen that looks like a cartographer’s table and asks you to place your RFID pass (for passholders) or your WDW room key (for on-property guests) on the screen. (A small card is given to guests who do not have passes or room keys with imbedded RFID.) Once your card is recognized, the screen animates and directs you to take a specific map from the stand next to you. The screen then displays a symbol that depicts the first location on your map that you need to visit. Upon opening the map, you will discover a brief story explaining the quest you have just set out on.
When you reach the corresponding location on your map, you place your card onto the symbol of the object in front of you; after about two seconds, you will hear a tone to mark that your card has been recognized. An item near you will come to life and give you information about your quest. Afterwards, you will then be shown a symbol for the next location on your map that you need to visit.
One quest takes about 15-20 minutes; there are five quests in all. A Pirate’s Adventure is far shorter in length than Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom; the comparison has both its positives and negatives. If you are looking for a quick adventure, Pirates is far easier to get through, and you are not bogged down with lengthy scenes to watch (and therefore lengthy wait lines). However, if you are looking for strategy, Sorcerers is the better option and provides more choice and skill for how you want the story to play out; Pirates is simply navigating from location to location on a map to hear a story.
Would I go to the Magic Kingdom exclusively to play A Pirate’s Adventure? No. Would I go pick up a map and head out on a quest to kill 20 minutes waiting for my next Fastpass window hit? Absolutely!!
